ARTIST STATEMENT
Stephanie Blanco
As an artist, I believe that every person carries a unique energy and essence. My artistic philosophy centers on the conviction that art has the power to not only capture this light but to amplify it, to breathe life into the static canvas. I aspire to infuse my creations using various painting materials, and graphite, with the very essence of my identity and the experiences that have shaped me. The act of creation has always served as a channel for me to articulate thoughts, and emotions, creating images of subjects in which I find interest, my own culture, my beliefs, and my experiences. I aim to infuse my creations with my own cultural identity of who I am and the life experiences, both negative and positive, that have crafted me. Being second generation Colombian and Cuban-American, exploring my Christian beliefs, and being a survivor of an abusive relationship. My goals are to delve deeper into my family’s ancestral heritage and, in the process, acquire a new lens, and subsequently use this newfound viewpoint to educate and enlighten others. I believe the result of that breaks stereotypes and creates cultural awareness. To articulate my personal journey, the process that took place in order to break free from abuse.
